The Fraction Log project was initiated in March 2020 by Monika Czarska as a spontaneous event called “Women Sitting at Home”. Eight members of the Frakcja group started every day of the lockdown since March 18 by sharing a short video on Facebook, in which they artistically reflected on the pandemic they were experiencing. The resulting material was edited into a two-hour video diary. Together with the accompanying comments and reflections, a subjective document of high emotional and aesthetic sensitivity was created. 

 

Fraction – An intergenerational group of female artists and art theorists founded in Lodz in 2016, Fraction brings together artists who work individually in the field of art on the border of areas such as installation art, performance art, video art, painting, sculpture, and research as art. The group is democratic, it does not have a leader, and all decisions are made jointly through talks and votes. The topics of interest to the group members include: feminist issues, activities in dialogue with a specific space (site-specific art) and popularization of women's art (Virtual Archives of Women's Art, Feminist Seminar, Art + Feminism).

►  Monika Czarska – A painter and graphic designer, she was born in 1978 in Łódź  where she lives, works and creates. She graduated from the Strzeminski Academy of Fine Arts, obtaining her Master of Arts degree from the Faculty of Graphics and Painting in the studio of graphic design for the publishing industry in 2003. She has been pursuing her ambitions in both fields – oil painting and using digital technologies for artistic projects.

 

►  Alicja Kujawska – A theoretician and researcher, PhD ethnographer and social anthropologist; writer, interviewer and educator. As an academic teacher, she has authored the curricula for “Visual Anthropology”, “Theory of Art”, and “Anthropology of Design” for various universities. She collaborated with the Patio Art Center, Crafts Council, Texti Textil Magazine, and the Krytyka Polityczna Club. In cooperation with the Cieszyn Castle, she initiated the Wool Design in Carpathians international workshops for designers. She is also an activist with the Food Cooperative in Łódź, and a food independence educator. Finally, she is an aficionado of wool and guerrilla knitting, industrial design, and bio art.

 

►  Anka Leśniak – Art theoretician and intermedia and performance artist active in genres such as installation, performance, painting, and video-art. She has participated in more than 80 exhibitions. Wrote a book entitled Invisible inVisible. Women disconnected from the history. Site-specific artworks on abandoned buildings (Łódź: Art and Documentation Association, 2017). Author of about 300 texts and reviews on art in Polish and international art magazines, an organiser and curator of art events. She completed her PhD in Fine Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdansk (Poland) in 2016. M.F.A. from the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź – she holds a diploma with honours (Poland) in 2004. M.A. at the University of Łódź, Art History Faculty (Poland) in 2003. Her works have been exhibited in Poland, Austria, Germany, Ukraine, Slovakia, Italy, Australia and South Korea.

 

►  Izabela Maciejewska – A graduate of the Faculty of Visual Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź (2002) and the Faculty of Photography of the National Film, Theater and Television School in Łódź (2006). Her works are featured, among others, in the collection of the City Art Gallery in Łódź; University of Southern California, Los Angeles; and Associazione Culturale Modern Contemporary Art - MoCA at the Venetian Arsenal in Italy. She has participated in over 100 individual and collective exhibitions (including the Exhibition of Finalists ARTE LAGUNA PRIZE at the Venetian Arsenal). She won many awards and distinctions, including the Audience Award at the Passion for Freedom Art Festival in London (2014); 2nd place in the Sculpture, Installation & Performance category of the International CELESTE PRIZE Contemporary Art Competition at Frieze Week, London (2017); and made the finals of the International Festival of Contemporary Drawing in Wrocław (2016). She is a holder of the scholarship of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage (2020).

 

► Aurelia Mandziuk – A PhD artist, curator and art animator. A graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź. Her work draws inspiration from the Arts and Crafts movement, but as a result of a wealth of experience and expansion in the search areas, she will use any means of expression in her current artistic activities, with the criterion for their selection being the form that she builds into a specific visual message. She works with fabric, creating objects and installations that cross the borders of many fields of art. She draws inspiration from her personal experiences and interpersonal relations. Reality mixes with art, art blends into it, becoming a pretext for action – “it works and incites others to act”, which in turn finds its reflection in her work. Her works have been presented at 15 individual exhibitions in Poland and Germany and over 150 exhibitions in Europe, USA and Asia. She initiated and took part in many international artistic projects. She is the creator and long-time director of the PATIO Centrum Sztuki in Łódź. A co-founder and member of the Art and Documentation Association. She works as a professor at the Łódź University of Technology in the field of Design, and at the Academy of Art in Szczecin at the Faculty of Painting and New Media.

 

► Beata Marcinkowska – A visual artist, educator, and Doctor of Art in the discipline of fine arts. She is the Head of the Department of Artistic Education at the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź. She pursues her own artistic projects – objects and installations. She takes part in both individual and collective exhibitions as well as in artistic actions and transmedia and site-specific activities in Poland and abroad. She has authored multiple publications, including textbooks and art exercises for children and adolescents issued by WSiP and the PWN School Publishing House.

 

►  Marta Ostajewska – A visual artist, performer, Doctor of Fine Arts, and academic lecturer. She is a graduate of Polish Philology at the University of Łódź and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts (KASK) in Ghent, Belgium (her major: Multimedia, specialisation: Performance Art). She defended her doctorate at the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław. She is the editor-in-chief of the artistic and scientific magazine Afterimages published by the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź. In 2014, she completed artistic projects related to the revitalisation of the Księży Młyn in Łódź as part of a scholarship granted by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and an artistic scholarship from the President of the City of Łódź. She focuses on issues related to performance art, site-specific activities, cultural revitalization, and documentary animations, as well as the body as an archive in the museum context.

 

► Ola Kozioł – A graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź, where she works as an assistant at the Faculty of Painting and Drawing. She connects in her artistic works ecologies with posthumanism, criticism of consumerism, feminist threads, and pacifism. Together with Suavas Lewy she creates an artistic group I'm sorry. Curator, initiator, co-implements and supports educational, artistic and social projects, workshops for children and opening workshops with a voice for women. She received a scholarship from the President of the City of Łódź for the implementation of the "Geography of hearts" project.
