Jolana Havelková & Lucie Vítková CZE
WORDS, 2020
Video performance, 15:45 min
The authors opened a new form of cooperation using the Skype and Zoom communication platforms in 2020. The Slova (Words) video is one of those works. Jolana Havelková presents her text to Lucie Vítková; its content and form is related to living during the time of pandemic. Vítková immediately responds to the text with music – choosing different instruments such as the accordion, hichiriki, harmonica, synthesiser, and various acoustic objects. Slova relates to a recent situation as well as to stories from more distant past, working with the theme of the necessity of communicating and experiencing. The words flowing from one location (Kolín) are the score for a system of sounds, rhythms and melodies in a different location (Blansko); in effect, the video becomes a conversation.
Jolana Havelková (1966) is a photographer, educator and curator. She graduated from the Institute of Creative Photography, Faculty of Philosophy and Science, Silesian University in Opava. She also focuses on social/art events.
Lucie Vítková (1985) is a composer, improviser and performer (accordion, harmonica, synthesiser, voice, and tap-dancing).
