For Jiří Surůvka, a sarcastic and extroverted jokester, the covid isolation that precluded meeting in person and live performances was a tough period. Responding to the situation at hand, he organised an online cake fight, toying with the seriousness of the situation and the topic in his typical style. Jana Francová, an artist from Brno, was his partner in the dialogue that also reflected the male/female aspect.

Jiří Surůvka (1961) is a creative artist active at an intersection of painting, installation and performance who is closely tied to the Ostrava environment. This is where he was born and where he graduated from the Faculty of Arts in teaching Czech and art; later on, he habilitated at VŠVU in Bratislava in free creation. Since 2004, he has been the Head of the Video-Multimedia-Performance Studio at the University of Ostrava. He has exhibited his works and performed all over the world, including in China.

Jana Francová has authored installations, performances and video mapping events. While a student of Faculty of Fine Arts, Brno University of Technology, she focused primarily on video installations, i.e., the relationship between video and space. She approaches themes (such as ‘book’, ‘childhood’, etc.) as a field trip into the relationship between media. At Masaryk University’s Department of Art, she organises Scalní video, the screenings of student videos introduced by performative actions related to the history of audiovisual arts, such as the Cake Fight with Jiří Surůvka.
